Making a step stool is pretty much easy and fun while the stoll will be fully funtional later. Follow these steps to make one for you in easy way.
Step 1. Materials and tools
For this project, you need some items below
- Wood filler
- Wood glue
- Foam paint brush
- Wood stain
- White paint
- 2” brad nails
- Nail gun
- Jig saw
- Miter saw
- Table saw
- 2 – 24×15” plywood
- 1×2 board and cut into five 13” pieces
- 2×6 board and cut into three 15” pieces
Step 2. Based on the measurement shown in the picture, make two of them from plywood. Use your own scale as the picture is not in real scale. It is only to help you determine the size of the stool pieces that you will build.
Step 3. After the pieces are ready, you need sanding, staining and painting all of them. Sand the wood using hand sander and use medium grit sandpaper. Concentrate on the edges and also the ends of the wood. If you have smooth surface, you will find it easier to stain and paint the wood before the assembly process. Let the paint dry.
Step 4. Now, assemble the step stool. To attach each piece, you can use some wood glue to hold the stool altogether. Before inserting nails into all pieces of wood, it is better to apply some thin lines of wood glue first. After the wood glue is implemented, insert two nails into the joints using the nail gun. These nails will hold the joints in place after the wood glue is dry and nice for at least 24 hours or more.
Step 5. After the stool is steady, attach two supports into the stool back. To hold the stool from being scratched up when being assembled, you can use camp table under the stool frame. You can also use some kind of cardboard or any other materials which can hold the stool in place.
Step 6. Attach the steps. For attaching the steps onto the stool frame, you can implement the same method. You need to apply some thin wood glue and also insert some nails on both sides of each step.
Step 7. Go over step 6 to attach all three steps
Step 8. After all steps are assembled on the stool frame, attach some additional supports under each step. Apply the wood glue before nailing the support pieces under the steps. The support for each step can be seen in the picture.
Step 9. You can give any additional finishing into your finished stool. You can paint the stool in white and add some coat to cover the stool from any damage.
